The Rampaging Hulk is a black-and-white magazine published by Curtis Magazines (an imprint of Marvel Comics) from 1977ΓÇô1978. With issue #10, it changed its format to color, and title to The Hulk!, and ran another 17 issues before it folded in 1981. It was a rare attempt by Marvel to mix their superhero characters with the "mature readers" black-and-white magazine format.

With the change to color and the title to The Hulk!, the magazine became Marvel's attempt to cash in on the popularity of The Incredible Hulk TV series, starring Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno, both of whom were prominently featured and interviewed over the course of the magazine's run, as was executive producer Kenneth Johnson.

The magazine featured fully painted covers by such artists as Ken Barr, Earl Norem, and Joe Jusko. One cover in particular, painted by Norem, is one of the most iconic promotional/poster images of the Hulk:[citation needed] a darkly-lit close-up of his face, gritting his teeth with his knuckles raised, done for The Hulk! #17.

Artists such as Walter Simonson, John Buscema, Howard Chaykin, John Romita, Sr., John Romita, Jr. (doing some of his first professional work), Keith Pollard, Jim Starlin, Joe Jusko, Bill Sienkiewicz, Val Mayerik, Herb Trimpe, Roger Stern, Brent Anderson, and Gene Colan provided interior artwork; while writers such as Starlin, Doug Moench, Dennis O'Neil, and Archie Goodwin took on the scripting chores.

Through its run the magazine published backup features starring Ulysses Bloodstone (issues #1ΓÇô6, #8) Man-Thing (issue #7) and Shanna the She-Devil (issue #9). Moon Knight was featured in issues #11ΓÇô15, #17ΓÇô18, and #20, featuring some of Bill Sienkiewicz' early work, when his style was similar to that of Neal Adams.

With issue #24, the title returned to black-and-white, though it published the last Dominic Fortune backup story in full color. The magazine was retired with issue #27.

Comments

Welcome back! I have not been finding stuff like this to torrent for awhile. And I recently looked for just this comic.
Youre a Wonder!
I guess it's true, what they say: You can take the UL-er out of TPB, but you can't take the TPB out of the UL-er! ;-)

Just can't stay away, can you, STFmaryville? ;-)

Thanks for the ul!
Oh man, I read this back in the day when I was a Kid! Thanks for this UL! any chance you have the 8 issue release curtis mags did of the Doc Savage Magazine?
i download something like this (it was on bolt.cd) and it just feels wrong not to share it. plus, i had to make up for my dumb ass after double-posting the latest issue of game of thrones! ;-P
and by the way, #23 is the semi-infamous "bruce banner almost gets raped by 2 gay dudes at the ymca" issue. not kidding!

for context:

When they made this Bruces experience wouldve been rape.
Fast forward to 2013. Now its 2 guys who think Bruce is hot and they want to have sex with him. But Bruce is a homophobe/Fox news fan who turns into the Hulk because hes a bigot and wont have gay sex.
today they could certainly claim it never happened, and sue the hulk for damages! ;-)

oh i dunno, jerry sandusky got his, didn't he? (realize pedophile and consenting gay adults is not an equivalency, but still...)
"Umm! You're Soft! And all pearly white--And you've got the cutest little cheeks!" Wtf? that's banannas lol.
Thanks for the upload, the covers are amazing especially for that time.
Thanks for the UL. Haven't read the B&W continuity-implant issues since they came out. Question: do you have the Hulk stories for #3 & 4? The post only has the Bloodstone portions.
oh i didn't realize that. lol i even looked at those file names and didn't realize that. hopefully i can track them down.
Here are the issues with the missing stories! http://thepiratebay.sx/torrent/8541375/
...Excellent post, STFM! Issues 1-9 I've been wanting to nab good scans of for some time, as I've been wanting to toy around with colorizing them just for shits and giggles. If I can ever get either scans of the pre-colored pages for Kirby's "2001" treasury edition, or a good scan of the printed version that I can just strip the color out of and start from scratch, I really want to do those as well.

Again, doubleplusgoodfind, sir!
